What Is Left
What is Left? is a participatory portraiture project and collaboration between Ellie Harrison, Roshana Rubin Mayhew and 48 members of the public.
Ellie and Roshana were warmly welcomed into participants homes. Participants were interviewed about an inherited object from someone who had died and sat for a portrait with the object. Portrait, audio, text and bespoke armchairs combine to create an immersive environment for the viewer.
Working with individuals, community groups and bereavement charities to take the portraits, What is Left? has been exhibited in empty houses across the UK, Libraries, Community spaces, Art Galleries, Museums, Historic buildings. The project explores the value we invest in these inherited possessions, both emotional and monetary, and the ways in which these objects mediate our relationships with the dead through memory.
The portraits are available to exhibit either as the full installations (with audio, text and/or with armchairs) or in bespoke presentations of different sizes from one portrait to fifty. if you're interested in bring our participatory exhibition to your venue or event get in touch at producer@politerebellion.co.uk
