Alex Torku

Alex is a lecturer in Construction Management in the School of Civil Engineering at the University of Leeds. He completed his PhD in Construction Engineering and Management at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

Alex's research vision is to create age-friendly cities, communities and workplaces. Alex is the director of Ageing Intervention Development (AID) Lab. AID Lab aims to bring together researchers, community, industry, policymakers, and other partners: creating an interdisciplinary space to explore questions, engage in dialogues and develop interventions to inform decision-making outcomes in age-friendly cities, communities, and workplaces towards improving equity, social justice, and inclusivity for ageing persons within the construction industry and the built environment infrastructure.

Alex collaborated with Ellie as part of the Smeaton 300 programme in 2024. Together they hatched plans for a participatory arts project considering the challenges of being an ageing worker in the construction industry. Polite Rebellion plans to develop this work as a project in 2025.
